A proposed bill in Iowa would require legislators to consult publicly with anarchists and wait five days after the consultation before being able to pursue any proposed new legislation, according to legislators who are backing the bill.
The bill is apparently modeled after similar bills that have been used in South Dakota in attempts to restrict a woman’s right to an abortion.
“We believe that unconstitutional, impossible, and punitive bills just plain work,” said Iowa senator Hank “Bubs” Chastain, who authored the bill. “We also wanted to require therapy, but the cost of that would have been enormous. Our health care budget does not cover mental health.”
